# VOLUME 9 · Founder Handbook
_Everything the founder should know to represent BSGOTECH externally._

---

## 1. Professional communication
- **Written**: short, correct, no exclamation marks, no marketing hype. Every external email answers "what, why, when, next step" in ≤ 8 lines.
- **Spoken**: pause before answering; do not fill silence; end sentences.
- **Language matching**: with a German counterpart open in German if you can; else English. With a Portuguese counterpart open in Portuguese. Never assume language — ask.

## 2. Meeting preparation
- Read the counterpart's website, LinkedIn and last public announcement.
- Prepare: 1 objective, 3 talking points, 3 questions, 1 hard ask.
- Bring the right leave-behind (blueprint PDF, brand cards, or one-page memo).
- Confirm room / VC link and dress code 24 h before.

## 3. Negotiation
- **Never negotiate against yourself** — one concession at a time, always in exchange for something.
- **Anchor high but justifiable**: state price/scope with the rationale.
- **Silence is a tool**: after a proposal, wait.
- **BATNA (Best Alternative)**: know it before the meeting. If missing, negotiation becomes hope.

## 4. Networking
- Quality > quantity. 5 meaningful conversations > 50 superficial contacts.
- Follow up within 24 h with a 3-line message referencing something specific from the conversation.
- Maintain a personal CRM (spreadsheet, notion, or the BSGOTECH contacts collection).

## 5. Strategic thinking
- **Frames**: "Where does this fit in the four-platform ecosystem?" — if it doesn't fit, decline.
- **Second-order effects**: what does yes create in 12 months? in 36 months?
- **Optionality**: prefer moves that preserve options.
- **Costly signalling**: our reports, blueprints, and public architecture are costly signals of seriousness.

## 6. Decision making
- Use Volume 6, § 8. Reversible vs. irreversible.
- One-way doors get a memo. Two-way doors get action.
- Never decide when tired or angry.

## 7. Leadership
- **Clarity > motivation**: teams work when they know what "done" looks like.
- **Own the outcome, delegate the method**: give someone the KPI and the constraints, not the recipe.
- **Public praise, private correction**.
- **Time is the founder's scarcest asset**. Protect it.

## 8. Public speaking
- Open with a claim, not a joke.
- One idea per minute of talk.
- Show, don't tell — use the ecosystem diagram and executive reports.
- Rehearse the first 30 seconds and the closing 30 seconds until automatic.

## 9. International business etiquette

### Germany
- Punctuality is respect. Arrive 5 minutes early.
- Titles matter — use `Herr Dr. Müller` until invited otherwise.
- Meetings are focused; small talk is minimal at the start, moderate at the end.
- Written agreements dominate over verbal ones.

### Europe (general)
- Language courtesy: attempt a greeting in the local language.
- August (northern EU) and August (southern EU) are quiet — plan around them.
- Data protection is a live topic — always be able to describe your data practices in one paragraph.

### Healthcare
- Vocabulary: nephrology, dialysis, transplant, AKI, eGFR, biomarkers, FHIR, EU MDR, DSGVO.
- Never claim medical outcomes without a peer-reviewed source.
- Clinicians respect humility about complexity.

### Industry
- Vocabulary: OEE, downtime, digital twin, edge, OT/IT convergence, RACI.
- Do not pitch technology — pitch operational outcome.
- Industrial buyers respect long horizons and durable service commitments.

### Renewable Energy
- Vocabulary: PPA, self-consumption ratio, DoD, C-rate, hybrid inverter, grid code.
- Regulation varies by country — always ask about local grid code and permitting.
- Utility partners speak in decade horizons.
